Statement from CIEF (The Church of Ireland Evangelical Fellowship)

Following the recent appointment of the new Archbishop of Canterbury and subsequent responses, there has been some speculation regarding the Church of Ireland’s relationship with other Anglicans around the world.

The Church of Ireland Evangelical Fellowship (CIEF) would like to clarify that we subscribe fully to the preamble and declaration to the C of I constitution [found in the green prayer book on pages 776-7] that states unequivocally our communion with the Church of England. However, the preamble also states that we are in communion with ‘...all other Christian Churches agreeing in the principles of this Declaration;’

Therefore, we support the appropriate recognition of all Anglican networks that exist globally; and in the spirit of the preamble and declaration we encourage unity and cooperation with all churches that subscribe to these Anglican principles, seeking ‘quietness, peace, and love, among all Christian people’.

Prayer Requests from Open Doors about the situation in Gaza and Israel:

The current ceasefire is the first step in a very long road. And so, along with other Christian denominations and agencies, I am asking again for Christians and churches across the UK and Ireland to continue praying for the unfolding situation in the Holy Land:

  • For comfort, strength and healing in Israel and in the Palestinian Territories for all those who have suffered and continue to suffer from the past two years
  • For food, drink and medical treatment for children and the elderly who have suffered so much in Gaza
  • For the negotiators; for wisdom, courage and grace as they bring together all involved in the conflict to seek a just and lasting peace
  • For Palestine and Israel to reach agreement on the key issues of Palestinian statehood, Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, and the future of Hamas.

Extra Prayer Points

  • Dean Ruth West as she starts her new ministry in Sligo
  • for those who are sick and undergoing treatment
  • a wise and godly response to the annual celebration of darkness
  • the new President Elect of Ireland

The Lord will rescue me from every evil attack and will bring me safely to his heavenly kingdom. To him be the glory for ever and ever. Amen

2 Timothy 4.18
