Message on Saturday 9th from Archbishop Masimango in Kindu:

‘The pastoral visit has not yet taken place due to insecurity following the Wazalendo movement, a militia fighting alongside the regular army. We are waiting for calm so that I can make this visit. The situation is somewhat calm in the province. The M23 [rebel group] are no longer advancing towards the southeast.

Pray for the return of peace, for the government leaders. Pray for the families hosting people from Bukavu and Goma who are stuck here because Goma airport is no longer operating. We have four displaced families at my house.’

Emergency funding is requested to help support displaced families. Money given to the Treasurer clearly marked for Kindu will go to this fund.

80th Anniversary of VJ Day

Around the world the 15th August is marked as the date hostilities came to an end in Japan. This year was the 80th anniversary. The world has changed enormously since 1945, but what a terrible cost was born by all sides in the conflict.

Catalysts (Activity for body, mind and spirit for over 50s)

The annual registration and coffee morning will be in the Catacombs on Thursday 11th September from 10.30 am.

Statement from the Diocese Regarding the Drumcliffe Group of Parishes

The churches in the Drumcliffe Group have changed and developed over time. Like a wood that survives for centuries there is a need for development in order to adapt to changing circumstances.

From Sunday 7th September Drumcliffe will be led differently to Lissadell and Munninane. The cycle of services will mean that Revd Luke Pratt continues to be routinely involved in St Columba's, but will also assist in other services elsewhere in the Archdeaconry until the end of his curacy in 12 months’ time.

Lissadell and Munninane will have other clergy or lay readers involved in leading worship, instead of him. Archdeacon Patrick Bamber will continue to chair Vestry meetings and deal with various issues that arise, but Revd Luke's involvement will gradually come to an end in those two churches.

The Diocese as a whole is committed to seeing worship continue in Lissadell and Munninane. In recent months in Lissadell the completion of the major roof repair work, the rededication of the east windows and the marriage of Bryan Henry and Linda McMahon were particular high points. We trust that there will be plenty of others in the years to come.

Congratulations!

... to Keanna and Alex on the birth of their son Malachi Alexander on Friday 15th in SUH.

Graham and Shirley Hewston celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary on 12 August.

Bertie Bamber passed his driving test on Friday.
