This is the second Sunday of Advent. It is also Carla’s last Sunday with us, and the occasion this afternoon of Reuben D’Errico’s baptism. Thank you to all those who have helped to decorate the church. If you would like to help finish them please contact Pippa in the week.
Don’t forget to collect your December edition of The Scribe and also to pick up your weekly giving envelopes for 2022, if you are on that scheme.
In the Rectory kitchen Sunday School today is led by Áine and Pippa, the last before the New Year. Parents are asked to do their best to get their videos in to Carla TODAY.
Please follow the directions of the Welcome Team and Church Wardens as to the one-way system, mask wearing and social distancing.
Prayer for our Church
Sunday morning at 10.45 a little group will meet in St Barnabas’ Chapel to pray for the service. (This probably won’t include anyone who is busy preparing.)
Prayer for the Grammar School
The next opportunity for parents and friends to pray for Sligo Grammar School will be in the New Year on Wednesday 19th January at 7.30 pm. The meeting will be on Zoom so contact Patrick if you would like the link.
Prayer for Carbury NS
There is a regular monthly gathering for prayer for Carbury that is held on Zoom. The next meeting will be on Tuesday 7th December at 8.00 pm.
Confirmation
Anyone new to confirmation preparation is asked to fill in a chart showing their availability during the week. Email Claudio at claudio.barguena@gmail.com
Daily Office
The daily office continues on Tuesday and Thursday at 10.30 am.
Saturdays Inter-Church Prayer
We return to online meetings at 8.00 am.
IT CU
The Christian Union is now meeting at the slightly earlier time on Tuesdays of 5 pm. For more information please email Ray Cotter: Cotter.Ray@itsligo.ie
Mothers' Union
The MU is marking 16 days of activism against gender-based violence. 1 in 3 women will be impacted by some form of violence in their life which is unacceptable. If you would like a copy of the prayer diary collect one at the back of church.
Tamara Irene Venables
As we say goodbye to Carla we can look forward to welcoming a new SAMS intern from South America: Tamara Irene is just finishing her first year of an architecture degree in Paraguay. We hope that she will join us in January and like Carla live in the Boarding House and work in the Parish. More details to follow.
Installation
The service of installation for the two new Archdeacons in the Diocese and four new canons takes place, God willing, on Sunday 9th January at 4.30 pm in St John’s Cathedral.
In Memory of Michael Cryan
Michael was a member of Calry and a former pupil of Carbury and Sligo Grammar who sadly died in October 2016. In his memory a charity fight night is taking place on Saturday 18th December at 7.30 pm in Luna Park, Sydney, Australia featuring Sarah Melvin. This is to raise money for North West Stop.
The Sick
Please remember Martin Ford in your prayers as he is currently in hospital and Eric managing on his own.
Happy Birthday
…to Caoimhin and Sophia Cole D’Errico on their recent birthdays!
Congratulations
Many congratulations to the People’s Church Warden Temitope Ososanya on her graduation with a Masters Degree in Clinical Supervision in Professional Practice. Combining study with working, especially working nights, is no easy task.
Prayer Points:
- all those who are bereaved
- Reuben and all the D’Errico family
- Carla as she prepares to finish in Sligo
- wisdom for national and local leaders responding to the current Covid-19 situation
Then suddenly the Lord you are seeking will come…
