Thanksgiving for Harvest

Well done to everyone who helped prepare for last week’s Harvest Thanksgiving. It was a memorable occasion all round – beautiful decoration, wonderful music, challenging message. We had plenty of food for thought inside and for munching outside in the dry afterwards!

Generous Giving Programme

Our Celebration Sunday is being postponed. This will allow us all a little more time to respond. Please post your responses into the offertory boxes or hand to David Bourke or Margaret Henry.

Youth Football

Football is happening at the new time of 3 pm in Fort Hill. This is for boys and girls. In the event of bad weather please get in touch to hear the alternative plan.

Mothers’ Union

The next meeting of the Calry/St John’s Branch is on Wednesday 13th October at 8 pm in St John’s. The guest speaker is changed to Revd Michael Wooderson.

Confirmations are happening again! For anyone who has yet to be confirmed please get in touch with Patrick to express an interest. (Minimum age is 2nd year.) This includes those who started preparation in 2020. Confirmation is an important step. It involves making a public commitment to Christ and his church and being prayed for by the Bishop to be continually filled with the Holy Spirit.

DR Congo

The Church of Ireland Gazette reports that Archbishop Masimango will retire as Primate of the Province in January, though he will continue as Bishop of Kindu. He will be succeeded by Dr Georges Titre Ande, the current Bishop of Aru. The Archbishop Designate asks for prayer: ‘God’s mercy and blessing for an effective transformational servant leadership’.

DR Congo has one of the very lowest Covid-19 vaccination rates in the world with less than 0.1% of the population vaccinated by October 2021. There are also major problems with corruption, violence and severe poverty.

Select Vestry

Our next meeting takes place on Thursday 14th at 7.45 pm in the church.

If you are experiencing some financial difficulties feel free to make contact with the Rector for a confidential conversation. There are some sources of help available.

If you need prayer or just a listening ear also please get in touch.
